So in this post, I want to compare Mega Pixels to Horse Power… I know I know, what???  Just hear me out on this.  Since the beginning of cars, people have been wanting to go faster and get going faster.  So what did they do, they made bigger faster cars.  But take a second to consider this…  does anyone, or better yet, could anyone  really use 632 horse power???  That is what the 2010 Lamborghini Murcielago has, yes 632.  Now I know that the 2010 Nissan Versa doesn’t really compare (especially on price), but I think most people would say that its 107 hp is sufficient for most drivers.  In February, we bought a 2010 GMC Acadia, it has 288 hp and is an 8 passenger SUV.

Ok, ok, Landon where are you going with this… follow me just a bit longer.  Hasselblad just released a 60 mega pixel camera, so I pose the same question… does anyone, or better yet, could anyone really use 60mp???  When digital cameras really went main stream in about 2002, a 2.1mp camera was considered great, and the people that had them had great images.  A 2mp camera is very sufficient for an 8×10 print, so if you can make an 8×10 print with 2mp, how big of a print can you make with a 60pm camera??? 

So I know you are thinking (or at least you should be) Landon there is more to a camera than mega pixels, and I would say ABSOLUTLY!!!  But for this blog post lets just keep it at that.  My first professional Nikon SLR camera was 6.1 mp, I made 20×30 prints+ with that camera, the Nikon I have now is 12.3 mp and I just got back a 24×36 print that look amazing. 

So here is my point, if your iPhone 4 has a 5mp camera and an entry level SLR has over 12mp, don’t get caught up in the mega pixel race otherwise you will have way more than you will ever be able to use and will have spent more money that you ever will get a return on your investment for…  And unlike Nikki’s dad thinks, you do not use up pixels when you take pictures:)
